Idea: Music software that builds constraints into the system—either by selecting variables, or generating them at random. Examples: In ensembles: "Guitar player with old Fender Strat playing through an old Fender amp with a ripped speaker cone", "keyboard that randomly generates sounds/players/ensembles. (It would have only one button—other functionality would be through interface with software).

[3/3/2025: It's now entirely plausible to build these kinds of concepts into artificial intelligence. It would be vastly more interesting than it is now. It would shift it to allowing the user to create more interesting concepts which would be spun out by large language models–similar to how it's currently doing with data sets of text.]

The interesting thing about digitized music is that once placed in devices that can randomly shuffle, the musical structures also get randomized, no need to have intros, outros, and so on in every song because there would be existing remplates for them].

On the Venezuela Youth Orchestra: It’s interesting to see what happens to music when someone’s life depends on it. What has been missing from classical music (and many other genres) is what cultural experiences the musicians bring to it—similar to what the British invasion did with the Blues. Just because it’s ‘classical’ doesn’t mean the musicians have to be strapped to their seats.

Creative work can start anywhere: you could start with writing or start with a photograph, start with music and go back to art. Anybody that does creative work understands this process of "domain alternation". When I'm working on music and making an album of some kind, sometimes I'll take a break and work on the album cover and will allow me to incubate the music, or I'll stop and write the liner notes, which tends to activate the language centers of the brain, which activates the music in a reciprocal process.

A captured phrase that has a natural prosody, inspiring a looped phrase for improvisation in the Mixolydian mode. The phrase could alternate with "Don't question your passion" or other words that fit the rhythm. It can be used as an etude for improvising through all the modes.
