Apple releases the video iPod, of course with U2 in the promo spots. Now with the advent of mobile video, movie studios should offer individual chapters or scenes from movies. This is interesting because it also wags the dog, whereby individual scenes can be pre-released as an enticement to see the movie.
[10/12/2024: I still use the idea of the “Video 45”, although YouTube has recently increased the length of the short to 3 minutes, making it a less interesting idea. What I like are constraints and the 60-second constraint was in the sweet spot–perhaps 90 seconds but not 2 minutes.]
[10/12/2025: 20 years later this device would be "petrified electronics", the things we still have but will never work again. But the idea persists--the idea of mobile micro-content, which is still popular today. Memes are a form of micro-content in the form of ideas or slogans. The current album I'm working on ("Curios") are all pieces a minute or less, some only 15 seconds long]
