Idea: Vocal arrangement for male choir, doubled by string basses. It would give the voice a string-like quality—like Slam Stewart’s solos.

Revivals are great in anything. The architecture in DC or in all older major cities includes Roman and Greek Revival, Gothic Revival and so on. Postmodern architecture was a revival of decoration, postmodernism in art was a return of representation. In music you can revive a sound fairly easily by using a Hammond organ and analog synths. To revive Disco, just use everything you would have been using in 1978. It is for this reason that art made with AI will have no real unique cultures or traditions unless the data sets and machine learning have a sense of “homage”. It is also important for a culture to have traditions that are respected and honored instead of pillaged for artifacts.

As with songwriting in the context of making an album, anything that is serialized can create uncanny juxtapositions and synchronicities while you’re in the process of making it. It’s “cosmic” in the sense that everybody’s experiencing the second day of the month in some way. It’s a state of mind—or minds. It’s fertile ground for synchronicity and juxtaposition.

The longer you've been divergent the harder it is to converge. Ever since I started the Songday system I've gotten into the routine of collecting ideas, which makes it harder to make decisions on what the best ideas are for a completed album. If I were a record company I'd be breathing down the neck of the producer to get on with it. But it's fun to collect ideas. David Bowie said he considered himself a collector. I find that getting nerdy about seemingly insignificant details (like file naming and numbering) actually helps to move the process along because it gives you numbers to paint by. But I doubt the "band" I'm producing would put up with that. They want you to be the impresario with an imprimatur.
